Hump Back Farm

We were planning to walk up Hump Back Rocks, but had such a fine time talking to the interpreters at the Farm below that we never made it. We did have a lovely Bodo's picnic on the lawn, tho.

Friendship Bracelets

Zara learned, among MANY other things, all about how to make friendship bracelets at Triple C Camp this summer. Here she is honing her craft during some downtime after a busy day in Kindergarten. Our house is pretty much covered in half-completed bracelets right now... I'd say she's started over 10, and has finished about 3. Not bad!

Day One (of 180) Done!

By all accounts, Zara had a great first day of kindergarten. We got more details about her first day than we got the whole last year of preschool, but that's a pretty low bar. Ms. Cabellero already rates hugs, even at drop off. And it took some effort to get Zara to come home.

Kindergartener

We're just back from dropping our baby off at kindergarten! We all walked, I took a video which I'll post later, Zara knew right where to go, gave Ms. Caballero a big hug, settled at her desk, said goodbye and ... forgot we were still there. Just then, the principal announced that the school day was starting and all the parents should "make their way" to the PTO coffee -- outside. Sniff!

Seem like this might be a two post day. Or three.

How 'bout dem hats?

Wes is as awesome a husband as can be (in case I haven't shared that with you lately, dear readers). He spent a few hours with Amity during the week when he would otherwise be bringing home the dough so that I could make some progress on my dissertation lit review. Sweet, yeah? Totally. Here he and Amity are about to embark on a basil picking expedition to the yard. And with the crazy good crop of basil plants we've had this year, it really is an expedition!

Corn Eaters

The local corn this year has been exceptionally good. Zara is a big fan, and Amity is enjoying teething on the cobs.

Albemarle County Fair, Take 2

We went two years ago, but I think we were out of town last year? In any case, we joined forces with the Tobias crew and all 8 of us had a lovely time at the fair. As you can see from the rather big kid ride in the last pic, Z (who is over 42" and can therefore ride on many rides she could not the last time we were here - she made good on her promise!) is a thrill-seeker. And she likes spinny rides. Which I don't, but that's OK, her dad can take her on them!

Giant Baby Hands

This is what happens when you take a foreshortened view of your 6 month old... giant hands of baby! She's very cute, though, so we'll keep her. Still loves the UPO!

Happy 6 month Birthday, Amity!

Now that she is 6 months old (stats to follow after pediatrician visit next week), Amity is moving up in the world. She is no longer merely a taster... she is an eater! Well, more like a nibbler. Here we see how much she has enjoyed her dinner of broiled salmon, hummus, baba ghanouj, whole wheat pita and various veggies.

Today also marks Zara's 6 month-aversary as a big sister. Wes and I are both incredibly proud of how well Z's adapted to life with Amity.
